Background and Timeline

2015-2016 School Year:

Driven by staff and faculty requests for continuing education and training on social-emotional development strategies, teachers and staff participated in an intensive 48 hour training program throughout the school year.

  • Encouraged by the success found in executing social-emotional behavior strategies from the Pyramid Plus training, RW staff applied for an implementation grant to support teachers and assistants as they implement the use of Pyramid Plus in our classrooms.

Summer 2016 – 2016-2017 School Year:

Awarded to RW in 2016, Year One of the implementation grant saw the following accomplishments:

  • The grant enabled us to send three staff members for additional summer training (two trained to be coaches and one as a trainer).
  • Leadership Committee established for the 2016-2017 school year.
    • Committee made up of staff, faculty, and parents.
    • Committee drafted Vision and Mission Statements for implementing Pyramid Plus Program at RW.
    • Committee researched and selected a social-emotional curriculum to be used beginning in 2017-2018 school year.
      • Criteria for curriculum selection:
        • Evidence-based strategies and outcomes supported by research and data not just assertions from curriculum developers.
        • Match RW community make-up
        • Would act as a framework to supplement and support teachers’ and assistants’ current RW curriculum
